Nobles County to replace 2 bridges, seal coat 50 miles of roadway

Jun 06, 2024

WORTHINGTON — Nobles County has contracted with Morris Sealcoat and Trucking, Inc., to seal coat approximately 50 miles of its county highway system, as part of the continued effort to improve and maintain its paved roads.

Seal coat activities are expected to begin in mid-August and last approximately two to three weeks.

While the contractor is performing this work, the traveling public may experience 10-15 minute delays. Traffic will be directed by flaggers and pilot cars in all active work areas.

For the first couple of weeks following the seal coat installation, traffic speeds will be limited to 40 miles per hour. Freshly-laid rock chips used for the seal coat project are more easily dislodged during this period when traveling at higher speeds.

Motorists using these routes are traveling at their own risk. Motorists who experience vehicle damage caused by these potential road hazards are liable for the damage incurred. Nobles County is not responsible or liable for any damage resulting to vehicles and motorists traveling through these locations.

The value of Nobles County's paved roadway system is substantial and this timely surface treatment is necessary for improving and prolonging its integrity.

"Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding in this important endeavor," the county stated in a media release. "Together we can secure these valuable public investments and achieve a higher level of service and quality on our paved roadway system."

Along with its planned road improvements, Nobles County is also replacing two bridge crossings this year. These new bridges will improve flow, roadway width and safety at these locations.

Nobles County has contracted with Structural Specialties, Inc., for construction of these bridges.

The construction for new bridge 53537 on Nobles County 19 is expected to begin in early August and will take approximately 12 to 14 weeks to complete.

The construction of new bridge 53538 on Nobles County 6 is expected to begin in late fall and be completed in June of 2024.

Just like those navigating the road projects, drivers are encouraged to heed detour signs and be aware of changing road closures in their areas of travel. Detours around projects will vary, so motorists should expect delays.

Residents who wish to learn more about these projects are encouraged to contact the Nobles County Public Works office at (507) 295-5322 or at 960 Diagonal Road, P.O. Box 187, Worthington, MN 56187.
